Age of Majority in Canada
Age of Majority in Canada The age of majority in Canada is the age at which a person is considered by law to be an adult. A person younger than the age of majority is considered a minor child. The age of majority in Canada is determined by each province and territory in Canada and varies between the ages of 18 and 19. At the age of majority, the responsibility of parents, guardians, or child protective services generally ends. However, child support is determined by the court or agreement for each case and therefore may continue past the age of majority. Upon reaching the age of majority, the new adult now has the right to vote. Other rights may be achieved at younger ages, while some are reserved for ages past the age of majority. Age of Majority by Province or Territory in Canada The age of majority in the individual provinces and territories of Canada is as follows: Alberta:à 18British Columbia:à 19Manitoba:à 18New Brunswick:à 19Newfoundland and Labrador:à 19Northwest Territories: 19Nova Scotia:à 19Nunavut:à 19Ontario: 18Prince Edward Island:à 18Quebec:à 18Saskatchewan:à 18Yukon Territory: 19 Legal Age in Canada The legal age is set for various rights and activities and is also known as the age of license. It may or may not match the age of majority in a province or territory. Even when it does, there may be other conditions such as mental capacity that can restrict some individuals.à Legal ages also oftenà differ as to whether the individual needs the consent of a parent or guardian or not for an activity. It is important to check the laws and regulations of each jurisdiction to find the applicable legal age for an activity. Because the age of majority varies between 18 and 19, nationwide programs such as sweepstakes often limit entry to age 19 for consistency. Criminal responsibility begins at age 12 in Canada, with individuals protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act until age 17. By age 14, a youth could be sentenced as an adult. The right to work begins at age 12, with the consent of a parent or guardian. At age 15, the individual can work without the need for consent. However, a person is not entitled to a full minimum wage until age 18. Joining the armed forces is allowed with parental consent at age 17 and without consent at age 19. The legal age is as low as 12 for the right of consent for being adopted, working with the consent of parent or guardian, or name changes with permission of the parent or guardian. Age of Consent for Sexual Activity in Canada The general age of consent in Canada in 16. However, there are exemptions for close-in-age sexual activity, which depend on the age of the younger partner. At age 12 and 13, an individual can consent to activity with a person no more than two years older. At age 14 and 15, a person may consent to activity with another person less than five years older.

Export Feasibility Analysis of a Consumer Item to a Foreign Country Essay
Export Feasibility Analysis of a Consumer Item to a Foreign Country - Essay Example There are no barriers to exports from the United States of America to Poland. There is however a drop in exports from the United States of America to Poland. The domestic production of telecommunication products is deficient and Poland depends on imports. In 1999 $124 million worth of telecommunication equipment was imported from the United States of America, but in 2000 these exports dropped by thirty five percent because of increasing competition from Western European countries. (Telecommunications. Poland). Competition in the field of cellular communications is fierce and it is this competitive activity that has seen the growth in the use of mobile phones in Poland. (Poland: Telecoms and Technology Background). Indirect competition comes from fixed line telephones and the status of the fixed line infrastructure in Poland is the driving force behind the growth of use of mobile phones and the penetration that is seen in Poland. Though Poland is in the front of the countries in the c entral European region from the point of view of service revenue, the fixed line penetration is just the opposite. The inference that can be easily made from this is that demand far outstrips supply and this situation has developed from the monopoly of TPSA till 2003. Though the situation has changed since then, indirect competition does not seem a stumbling block for the growth in the use of mobile phones in Poland. This is the area of fierce competition that has seen an increase in the potential and penetration in cellular communications in Poland.

Alexander the Great - Research Paper Example By the time Alexander ascended to the throne of Macedonia, the main cities of Greece were already brought under the Macedonian rule and so Alexander came up with a strong and experienced military force in the land. At first, he established as the general of the Greece and then he ventured to expand the empire to the other side of the world. He started his expansion of the empire by attacking Asia Minor in 334 B.C. The ten years of expanding the empire, up to his death, marked as the craftsmanship of this Macedonian king. The whole Persia under Darius III came to be under Alexander the Great. The attack of Alexander in India (336 B.C.) witnessed the greatness of the emperor by giving the land to the earlier king. The near mutiny of his troops made him back to Macedon. The death of Alexander in 323 B.C. in Babylon witnessed the end of Macedonian dreams to conquer the remaining countries of the ancient world. BBC says, ââ¬Å"Alexander led his army a further 11,000 miles, founding over 70 cities and creating an empire that stretched across three continents and covered around two million square milesâ⬠(BBC). All the places he conquered were put together in an ââ¬Ëinternational network of trade and commerceââ¬â¢. The language and culture of the Greek spread across the conquered places and there was the interchange of the culture- the Greek and the conquered countries. This research gives a small description of the conquests of Alexander the great and tries to analyze how Alexanderââ¬â¢s conquests affected the countries with Hellenistic attributes. So the paper takes the thesis statement, Alexanderââ¬â¢s the great conquests affected the countries in many ways. Alexanderââ¬â¢s Conquests It was after ascending into the throne of Macedon in 336 B.C., Alexander III took part with the desire of his father in expanding the territory of the country. His father, Philip II, had already made the Greek countries under Macedon through military and diplomatic measures. So he had already paved the way for his son to ride on. The new king Alexander at the age of 20 started his attempts to conquer the other countries. It was amazing for researchers to believe that Alexander could take control the major parts of the ancient world. His empire coved the countries like Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Armenia, Persia, Afghanistan and India of the ancient world. All those places that came on the way from Macedonia to India became under the control of Alexander the great. (See appendix 1) William J. Duiker and Jackson J. Spielvogol had given the brief account of Alexanderââ¬â¢s invasion in their book, The Essential World History. It is stated in the book that, in the year 334 B.C. his army, consisting 37,000 men entered Asia Minor and soon the entire western half of the country came under Alexander. The attack of Alexander suddenly alarmed the Persian ruler, Darius III and he wanted to stop the movement of the Greek army. The battle of Issus was a fe arsome one between these two armies and finally the Greek became victorious. This success made him

Organizational Interview Paper - Essay Example John Pemberton concocted the Coca Cola formula in a three legged brass kettle in his backyardâ⬠(Bellis, 2009). At present, Coke is the largest non-alcoholic beverage company in the world even though PepsiCo is raising stiff challenges to Cokeââ¬â¢s supremacy. ââ¬Å"Coca Cola is currently operating in more than 200 countries with over 50,000 employees and more than 800 production and distribution centers and 300 worldwide bottling partnersâ⬠(The Coca-Cola Company: Growth, Leadership, Sustainability, 2009). Replying to one of my questions, Jack Nicholas told me that, Coke had a standardized vision and mission statement for the entire world earlier. But globalization brought many changes in the global business circuits and internationalization of business was made easier as a result of that. He has told me that Coke realized the importance of diverse marketing strategies in different countries in order to make Coke as an acceptable soft drink in foreign markets. In his op inion, keeping same vision and mission for the entire world is meaningless since the requirements of different regions or countries are different. He has also stressed the importance of internationalization business and different mode of entries used by companies in entering foreign markets. Merger and acquisition is accepted as the major mode of entry in foreign markets by coke.

Describe the single accomplishment of which you are most proud and explain why - Essay Example My family also lived near his, so I decided to go home as well, to be by his side as a friend and support him in any way I could. My friend was so distraught, he neglected to tell anyone at the school he would be leaving for a short period and also did not inform them of what had happened to his beloved sister. I did not want to see my good friend expelled during such a difficult time in his life, therefore, I took it upon myself to notify the school administration, professors, and anyone else necessary about his predicament and that he would be back after all was taken care of with his family. I also thought it would be good for my friend to be around his closest comrades in his time of need, so I not only came back to our hometown with him, but brought four of our closest school friends with me as well. They stayed with me for the duration and collectively we gave our grieving friend emotional support and backing. Furthermore, there were friends who could not leave school and be with all of us, but who likewise wanted to lend their support, so I kept all of them posted on everything going on, even when these friends were scattered at different schools across the country. I wanted to be of as much help as possible to not only my friend, but his family as well in this time of sadness and loss, therefore, my friends and I made ourselves available for errands, sh

Product Liabilities Cases. Confidential Business Information Essay
Product Liabilities Cases. Confidential Business Information - Essay Example Though product liability is a valid legal requirement, the Supreme Court pushed the limits too high that many manufactures have shied away from the market. The Supreme Court denied the fact that in some cases, though a supplier may be certain of the functionality of a product, systems may go haywire lidding to unforeseen damages or fatalities. Though consumer activists explain that such products liability suits would make manufactures more responsible on the threat of product liability, the fact is that such suits are hurting the manufacturing sector and preventing thousands of innovations from getting into the market (Andre & Velasquez, 2010). Increased product liabilities cases lead to increased cost of goods to the consumer, which implies that the cost of the litigations outweigh their benefits to the society. Andre & Velasquez (2010) explains that the high cost of litigations in many companies, making up to 60% of litigation expenses is making cost of doing business to increase s ubstantially; as the cost of liability suits increases, the company passes the increased burden to customers in terms of high product processes. Therefore, such litigations by a few will hurt many customers in terms of increased prices. In some extreme cases, companies have been forced to scale dozen their operations due to the high costs of such litigations. This results to thousands of job losses. For example, a Conference Board report recently revealed that 15% of companies were forced to undertake massive downsizing, while another 8% were forced to close down plants due to such litigations (Andre & Velasquez, 2010). In addition to losing jobs, such a move hurts the economy as productivity and investments are forced to close as a result of litigations. Moreover, more companies with ingenious products fear introducing such products in the company. The above report revealed that up to 39% of companies delayed introducing new products in the market due to fear of litigations. In fac t, withe such litigations, vaccines to some diseases such as AIDS may never be realized as manufacturers shy away from the market due to such litigations. This hurts the overall economy and society in general. DQ 2 Every business has to abide to some legal agreements that are protected under the law. In order to act ethically, a business has to ensure that all information held about their clients is confidential and is not to be disclosed to any other party under any case, unless a court of law orders such information to be presented. According to British Law (2012) a confidentiality agreement or any non-disclosure agreement is a legally binding contract, with owner of the information disclosing such information to a third party; the third party is legally required to keep such information confidential and not disclose such information to any other party. According to IPR Help Desk (2012), trade secrets are any confidential information held by a business, which makes a business to a chieve an economic benefit that translates to competitive advantage. Such a secret is largely unknown to competitors due to the strategic efforts by the holder of such information to keep it a secret. How do affect and emotions influence decision making processes and how Essay
How do affect and emotions influence decision making processes and how might this in turn influence the design of a specified in - Essay Example If the situation is dangerous or bad, the brain induces a negative action to counter the bad feeling. Visceral level of the brain is captured by high arousal or increased adrenaline rush that is associated with danger. To most people visceral levels dominates reflective level of the brain. A behavioral level of the brain is concerned with daily behavior of an individual and is often unconscious. It is associated with effectiveness and pleasure of doing or using something. This level of the brain can be enhanced or inhibited by the reflective layer of the brain but it can influence the visceral level. The third level of the brain is reflective level. Reflective level is contemplative and concerns itself with rationalization and intellectualization. It does not control the behavior directly because it does not have direct access to sensory input. It controls behavior indirectly by influencing the behavioral level of the brain and competes with visceral level. Affect and emotions are cr itical in decision making. This is because they influence decision making process in various ways. People make decision based on both immediate and expected emotions. First, immediate emotions affect decision on the basis of good or bad experiences at that particular time when decisions are made. Immediate emotions are affective and affect decision making directly or indirectly. Decision making can be influenced directly as they are made. For example, if a person feel fearful at a time when he or she makes decision concerning his treatment approach, he or she is likely to choose a less risky treatment approach even if the most risky option has better results. Emotions can also affect decision made indirectly by changing desirability or probability expectations of an anticipated future result. For example when a patient is feeling happy, he or she is likely to choose a riskier treatment option that has better future outcome as compared with the less risky outcome with poor future out come (Kattan and Cowen, 2009). Immediate emotions are considered affect program emotions. They disrupt current actions and cognitive inputs making a person to alter his or her actions. Immediate emotions that influence decision making are categorized into negative and positive emotions. Negative emotions include anger, hate, anxiety, fear, worry and stress. Negative emotions make a person feel out of control. If a person has negative emotions, he or she is likely to make pessimistic, radical and aggressive decisions. Positive emotions include happiness, love, kindness and security. A person with positive emotions is more likely to make optimistic, cooperative and mild decisions. Immediate emotions change outcome or probability perceptions as well as the quantity and quality of processing relevant facts and signs for decisions. Secondly, expected emotions influence decision making. The emotional outcomes associated with a given decision affect decision making process. Often, people s elect actions that minimize negative emotions and maximize positive emotions. For example, a patient suffering from prostrate cancer may choose radiation treatment over surgical treatment because surgical treatment is likely to make him impotent.
